|- The History of Medawar Fine Jewelers, Serving the Peninsula for Over 20 Years -|
After falling in-love with the Palos Verdes Peninsula in 1976 during a trip to Marineland, Michel Medawar and his family were honored to be accepted into this community and made it their home. Three short years later, Robert Medawar began his quest to carry on his family’s legacy by opening Medawar Fine Jewelers in Rolling Hills Estates.
A third generation family business that was founded overseas in 1920, Medawar Fine Jewelers opened its doors on the Peninsula in the winter of 1979. Educated and trained at the finest Horological and Gemological institutes in Germany, Switzerland and the U.S. The Medawars combine their knowledge and experience with unparalleled passion for their art to provide a complete and unmatched experience to each and every customer. When Integrity is earned life long relationships are made.
As the years past and the business grew, Robert’s commitment to his adopted home included two consecutive terms as the chairman of The Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce. A sworn reserve Police Sergeant for the City of Palos Verdes Estates for the past twenty four years, and countless contributions and volunteer work to a variety of local public and private organizations. In 2010 Robert was awarded the Matt Brunning Business Excellence Award for business in leadership and philanthropy to the quality of life on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
In 1987 Michel Medawar, a world renowned inventor donated to his beloved City The Palos Verdes Flower Talking Clock. Residing in its own park on Silver Spur Road, in Rolling Hills Estates, this mechanical marvel measures more than twenty-five feet in diameter. With a dial made of flowers and powered by a Patek Phillipe mechanism designed specifically for this clock, it announces the time on the hour and plays the National Anthem at noon every day.
